GTA V: Fidelity Mode, Performance RT, & Performance Modes, compared

Each mode has its pros and cons.

With the release of Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded and Enhanced edition, there are now more choices regarding your gaming experience. There are three options within the settings to choose whether you prefer graphics over frame rate and vice versa. Here are the options explained.

The three modes are called Fidelity Mode, Performance Mode, and Performance RT Mode. We will go into exactly what each mode does to your GTA experience.

The differences between Fidelity Mode, Performance Mode, and Performance RT Mode in GTA V Expanded and Enhanced

  • Fidelity Mode: This will focus on the game's resolution, producing full 4K graphics while scaling the frame rate down to 30fps to focus on the visual output.
  • Performance Mode: This mode focuses a lot more on the frame rate. It will bring the game up to 60fps while not trying as hard to keep the resolution at a constant 4K picture. With upscaling, it may hit 4K but will most likely fluctuate from 1440p upwards (unless you are on the Xbox Series S, which will decrease to 1080p).
  • Performance Mode RT: This is akin to a mixture of the two modes above. It will work hard to hit a constant 60fps while also providing a 4K picture. Due to it focusing on both elements, however, graphics and frame rate wise won't be a fixed rate and will dip to lower frame rates or resolutions to handle the game when it gets intensive, such as when the screen is densely populated.

You will notice a new HDR calibration screen when you first start the game. This will be your initial setup for the game's look.

Once you have started the Ludendorff mission, you can pause the game and go to the Settings. From there, go down to Display and then across to Graphics Mode. You will then see the three options, press the joystick or D-Pad to choose which option you would prefer.

We personally feel that Performance RT is a good middle ground, as even though there may be some trade-offs at busy points in the game, most of the time, you will be getting that beautiful 4K with around 60fps.
