How to get Cinder in Hades 2

Set fire to the underground.

In Hades 2, you can get a variety of reagents you can spend to get new weapons or to make items with. One of these reagents is an item called Cinder, and it is needed to get the Umbral Flames weapons.

As Hades 2 is currently in Early Access, the location I have found to get Cinder might change before the full release of the game. I'll update this post if the information here does change, or if I find more Cinder locations to share with you.

Where to find Cinder in Hades 2

So far, the only place I have found Cinder is as a reward for defeating Hecate, the Guardian of Erebus. Hecate is also the Goddess of Witchcraft and is a common figure in Greek mythos. In Hades 2, she is a mentor to Melinoë, but you will still need to take her on as a boss to prove your skills. Every time you defeat Hecate, who is the first boss in every round of the roguelite cycle, you get one Cinder.

What do you need Cinders for in Hades 2?

Cinder is a reagent described as "Mostly used with incantations involving fire and preservation," and you'll need them to unlock some hot items. In order to unlock the Umbral Flames weapon, you'll need three Cinder and three Silver. Since Hecate only drops one Cinder every run if you defeat her, you'll need to take her down three different times to get this weapon. I also found an Arcana card that required one Cinder, so it's safe to say you'll need a handful of these fiery reagents in order to unlock everything that requires this unique, boss-only item.
