The Golden Apple is a rare resource in Hades 2 locked behind a boss fight. I'll show you where to get Golden Apples and what to do with them in Hades 2.
Where to get the Golden Apple in Hades 2
The Golden Apple is found in the Rift of Thessaly on the surface. First, you'll need to traverse multiple ships of enemies, go through two Charon boats, and potentially even fight Charybdis. On the second boat driven by Charon, you'll see a door with a Golden Apple on it.
Entering this door will lead you to the Eris boss fight. It's one of the hardest in the game because she is fast and armed with the Railed Adamanent. Those able to defeat Eris successfully will be given the Golden Apple.
In the Early Access version of Hades 2, you'll be immediately returned to the Crossroads after this fight. You'll need to beat her three times to get enough Golden Apples for the two current uses.
Tips for beating Eris in Hades 2
Since you'll need to fight Eris multiple times for Golden Apples, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with how to fight her. These three tips will help you defeat Eris and gather plenty of Golden Apples in Hades 2.
Use the right Trinket
There are three Trinkets I recommend using against Eris. Which Trinket you use is determined by the circumstances of your next fight with her.
- If you lost to Eris in your last run, choose the Evil Eye. When selecting the Evil Eye, the name of the last enemy to kill you is mentioned toward the bottom. As long as the name written is Eris, the amount of damage you do to her will be increased.
- If you find yourself tanking a lot of hits from Eris, use the Knuckle Bones. They'll both remove a percentage of Eris' health and reduce the damage she does to you by 15%. Just make sure to equip it after fighting Polyphemus, not before. Equipping it from the start of the run will apply the health reduction only to Polyphemus while equipping it after defeating him ensures the reduction goes to Eris.
- The Luckier Tooth Trinket will give you an extra life while fighting against Eris. If you've already used your Death Defiance or haven't unlocked any yet, it's a good option to consider.
Use the pillars as cover
There are two pillars in the area you fight Eris in. One is on the left side of the map while the other is on the right. Initially, I used them as a shield against Eris' pink range attack, which destroyed them in one go. However, I found that they are more useful when used to block Eris' regular attacks. This is especially true for when she has powered herself up using the Adamant Rail.
Strengthen long-range attacks
Like most bosses, dealing damage to Eris from afar is a surefire way to hurt her while avoiding taking damage of your own. This is especially true when Eris throws bombs all around the map and you're unable to get close. One great way to do this is by getting Boons that allow you to use your Cast in a specified area rather than around yourself. Another way to do this is by using long-range weapons like the Argent Skull or using Daedelus hammers to increase the range of your weapon.
What is the Golden Apple used for in Hades 2?
The first way to use the Golden Apple is to unlock the Aspect of Eos for the Umbral Flames weapon. The Aspect of Eos makes your attack grow stronger over four seconds and return to you whenever you sprint. The damage starts at an extra 40%, and increases by 10% for each rank.
The second use for Golden Apples is unlocking the Divinity Arcana Card. The Divinity card gives all Boons a 10% chance to be Epic as long as you have activated 5 Tarot Cards in any row. It costs 40 Ash and 1 Golden Apple. Upgrading it will increase the chance for Boons to be Epic.
