Being a Helldiver is a symbol of Democracy and Freedom in Helldivers 2. As such, the customization of your Helldiver revolves around the freedom to change almost everything about them, though, you're not really given many options to start off.
How to customize your character in Helldivers 2
When you begin playing Helldivers 2, you're thrown into the game's basic training so you can learn the ropes. This training lasts about five minutes, and once it's done, you're given your own super dreadnaught to captain. It is here that customization of your character can begin. To begin the process, head over to the Armory on your ship.
From here, you're given several options to mess around with, but if you're looking to customize your character, the two you want to pay the most attention to are the Character and Armory tabs.
The Character tab focuses on the customization of the fundamentals of your character. You have six core options to play around with to your fancy.

- Body Type - With this tab, you can change the body shape of your character. Brawny makes you appear more masculine, and Lean makes you appear more feminine.
- Voice Pack - Here, you can customize how your character sounds when performing actions and callouts. You're given the ability to choose between four different voices, as well as the ability to have your character's voice be random when making callouts.
- Emote - This section allows you to select the Emotes you wish to have equipped at any given time. You unlock more of these as you progress the game, but starting off you only have Salute.
- Victory Pose - This part of the pie allows you to select the pose your character makes when completing a mission. Like with Emotes, you'll unlock more options as you play through the game.
- Player Card - This option lets you select the Background appearance of your character when viewed by others following a mission or otherwise Just like with Emotes and Victory Poses, you'll get more of these by investing War Medals in a Warbond.
- Title - This final option under Character lets you choose an identifying title for your character. Anyone on your team will see your title. You'll have many options for these as you gain levels and experience.
The Armory tab focuses on the visual appearance of your character, unlike the abstracts associated with the Character tab. Here you have the option to change three core visual portions of your character.
- Armor - The most significant visual changes in your character come from the Armor your character is wearing. Armor comes in many variants, and has a direct effect on your gameplay. Light Armor lets you move faster and provides minor defense, Medium Armor is a balance between speed and defense, and Heavy Armor is all about the defense while sacrificing speed. New armor is obtained via the Warbond system, and they generally provide a significant visual change to your character.
- Helmet - Helmets function exactly like Armor does, down to how you obtain different ones, but they differ in that they provide no changes to your gameplay experience. Helmets are entirely cosmetic, so the option of which helmet you decide to wear depends solely on your fashion sense.
- Cape - The final visual customization option for your character is the ability to change the cape they're wearing. Capes function exactly like Helmets, so the choice of which cape you wish to use is solely based on your cosmetic preferences.
With these options, Helldivers 2 offers you plenty of choices in designing your own custom Helldiver, and you now have a clear and precise understanding of how the process works.
