Petrificus Totalus can be learned during the Secrets of the Restricted Section quest. Once you have acquired this spell, you can cast it from behind enemies. To do this, use the Disillusionment spell to go invisible and sneak up behind the enemy. When you are behind an unaware opponent, you'll see a prompt that says Petrificus Totalus. Press X or Circle for controllers and F on the keyboard to use this spell on an enemy.

The Secrets of the Restricted Section quest reveals a lot about the storyline of Hogwarts Legacy. During this quest, you will have to sneak into the library's restricted section with Sebastian Sallow. You must steal the key from the Librarian's desk and enter the restricted section. Eventually, you'll go down to the Atheneum, where you'll learn more about Percival Rackham and Isidora Morganach.

The Petrificus Totalus Mastery can be unlocked with a Talent Point after you reach level 22. Check the Stealth section in Talents to unlock this upgrade. Once you have acquired mastery of this spell, Petrificus Totalus will get an area of effect that impacts enemies nearby.
