While we are all waiting for the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, it seems Nintendo has decided to raise the hype levels by creating Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a prequel to Breath of the Wild. What's even more brilliant about it is that we get to see first hand what happens all those 100 years ago!
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity How to Shield Surf
To shield surf in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, you must play as Link and enter an attack combination to activate the shield surfing attack, or by running and then hitting the button X button.
Shield surfing is incorporated into Link attack combos now, so Link will cause different attacks to happen based on the player's inputs. How Age of Calamity works is that there's a Weak Attack button, which is Y, and there is a Strong Attack button, which is X. By pressing Y three times, and X once will incorporate a different attack then pressing Y once and then X once.
There are two ways to trigger a shield surfing attack. Either by pressing Y twice and then X one. This will make Link hop on his shield and damage enemies around him as he surfs. The other way is to hold down B until Link puts away his sword and begins to dash, and then press X; this will make Link shield surf and damage enemies on his travels without hitting the Weak Attack button first.
The combinations are the following:
- Shield Surfing attack
- Y>Y>X
- B (Hold) > X
Remember, this game is not like Breath of the Wild, so don't go into it thinking you'll take fall damage by falling off the shield. Nothing of the sort will happen. Link's shield surfing attack will have a time limit and will end without any input from you. However, you can end it prematurely by evading once again by pressing the B button or by pressing Y.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gameplay is very different from BotW; however, some elements remain, such as parrying. You can eat to heal to regain health, but it's changed as you cannot cook meals mid-game and then pause to eat everything in sight!
