One of the essential things you'll need to do on any mission in Icarus is establish a shelter to protect you from the cold and other hazardous elements. This is a fairly simple task, but it isn't explained well in the beginning steps of the game, and many players aren't sure how to do it.
The most important thing to know is that you need resources to craft a shelter. The resources you need depend on what type of shelter you'd like, but the most basic form of a shelter requires the following resources for each piece:
- Fiber (20): Obtained by harvesting bushes.
- Stick (3): Obtained by harvesting small trees.
You will need two floor pieces and three wall pieces to build a basic shelter. So in total, you'll need 120 Fiber and 15 Sticks. When you have the resources above, you will need to make sure the walls and floors are researched in your tech tree. If not, you must gain enough experience to go up a level and research them. You can enter your tech tree by pressing P on the keyboard.
After you've researched the walls and floor, you are ready to craft them. Enter your crafting inventory by pressing O on the keyboard, then craft three walls and two floors. An example of this can be seen in the image above.
When the pieces are crafted, you must move them from your inventory to your hotbar. Then, select the Floor piece on your hotbar and place it wherever you'd like. You can then build the walls around the floor and finish up the small shelter by placing the last remaining piece on top of your shelter. This shelter does not place a bedroll (you'll have to build a bigger one for that), but it works fine to protect you from natural elements.
