Is there co-op in LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga?

Can you play with friends?

Local multiplayer has always been a strong point of the LEGO video game series, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has the preconceived expectation to allow players to play with their friends on the same console. This would be hard to implement in such an open-world game, but couch co-op is expected in every LEGO video game.

In an interview with DualSHOCKERS, game director James McLoughlin and head of design Arthur Parsons discussed multiplayer features. Both developers confirmed that Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will feature a split-screen co-op. In response to a question about a possible online component, McLoughlin clarified that it will be "couch co-op."

Will LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga have online multiplayer?

This game will continue the tradition of allowing two players to play on one console. Yet, it does not sound like the game will allow any online multiplayer. While this is good news for those who enjoy playing side-by-side with their friends, it is bad news for anyone expecting to play online.

The camera mode will be a regular split-screen rather than a dynamic split-screen like other games. Dynamic split-screen occurs when a game implements split-screen when players are too far apart but merges the views when players are close. McLoughlin said they could not implement the feature because it would not work with a 3D camera.

Therefore, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will always keep two players on separate screens no matter how far apart they are.
