To customize your faithful Mech in Lightyear Frontier, you need three things: Blueprints, Parts, and an Upgrade Depot. However, you also need a Merchant Landing to get Blueprints and Parts. With Upgrade Depot, you can customize and upgrade your Mech's appearance and stats.

Stand in front of your Mech and hold the Secondary Tool Action button. That will turn your pickaxe into a magnetic tool that attracts the mecha parts to you. Point at your Mech's part to detach it, then aim outside the Mech and press the Primary Tool Action buttons to throw the part away. Do that with all the parts you want to remove.

After you remove all the parts, access the Upgrade Depot command table at the end of it. The Upgrade Depot menu has two sections: Mech Upgrades and Mech Customization, and we need the latter. From the customization menu, select the parts you want to attach to your Mech, and they will materialize in front of you. Now, log off from the Upgrade Depot menu and attach the new parts using your magnetic tool.

Once you attract a part, you'll notice a white silhouette on your Mech for that part. Aim there and press the Primary Tool Action button to attach the part to your Mech. Do that with all the parts, and then go in the Mech again to undock it from the Upgrade Depot.

Upgrade Depot is relatively easy to make, but it's a big structure, so it needs a lot of space. Access the Build menu and go to Essentials. You'll see Upgrade Depot as the second structure in the Essentials section. To build an Upgrade Depot, you need the following resources:

  • 10x Stone
  • 3x Aluminum Rod

Before building an Upgrade Depot, you have to restore Pine Heights so you can unlock new resources, such as Aluminum Rods and Red Crystals. The basic form of Spike Saw allows you to harvest both Stone and Aluminum Rods.

Now that you have built Upgrade Depot, you need parts and other customization items for your Mech. You can buy both from the Merchant, but you need to create a Merchant Lander first. To build a Merchant Lander, you need the following.

  • 3x Red Crystals
  • 4x Aluminum Rod
  • 5x Stone

Once Lola the Merchant arrives, you can trade your goods with her and buy the Mech parts and Blueprints. Once you get those, head to the Upgrade Depot and dock your Mech. When you dock, you'll jump out of it, and you'll be able to remove and add your Mech's parts manually.
