Raising crops is an enjoyable and profitable pastime in Lightyear Frontier. It turns out that your good neighbor Ulf can help you grow some unique and rare crops, and if you're wondering how it works, here's our handy guide for how to grow all rare crops in Lightyear Frontier.
How to unlock rare crops in Lightyear Frontier
To grow rare crops in Lightyear Frontier you must first establish contact with Ulf, a friendly botanist from another local planet who requests to start a research project about the Frontier's plant life with you. Once you've built an Outpost for him somewhere on your farm, he'll arrive on his ship and you can start his questline.
The main objective of Ulf's questline is successfully producing mutated (rare) versions of all crops currently found on the planet. To do that, you first need to construct a Seed Splicer (seen above) at his Outpost, which will allow you to splice the seeds of regular crops found around the Frontier into ones that can potentially grow mutated versions of those crops. As long as you've discovered and grown a certain type of regular crop at least once, you can splice it at Ulf's Seed Splicer.
Remember, if you're running low on any seeds you need for splicing, you can also buy them from Lola, if she has them available. Otherwise, you must venture around the map to collect them with your Mech.
Once you've placed enough seeds into the Seed Splicer to produce a few spliced seeds, sow them into any available crop plot that you have and water them daily, just as you would any other crop. In a few days, your crops will be fully grown and at least one of them should look noticeably different from the others (size and color). This indicates a mutated crop, which you can then provide to Ulf for his research and progression of his questline.
The goal is to give Ulf at least one of every type of possible mutated crop, and the rest you can sell to Lola to help boost your funds significantly.
All rare crops in Lightyear Frontier and how to grow them
Below we've listed all current rare (mutated) crops in Lightyear Frontier, how to grow them, and their base prices. You'll know that a crop is mutated by the difference in color and size (as seen above).
Also, be aware that even when you sow spliced seeds and tend to them like regular crops, only a small percentage of them will actually yield mutated crops. Therefore, the more spliced seeds you sow, the better the chances of getting a substantial amount of rare crops to provide to Ulf for his research and also sell to Lola for a VERY hefty profit.

Mutated Polyberry | Spliced Polyberry Seeds (5 x Polyberry Seeds per splice) | $450 |
