After picking a good starting class, you'll want to ensure you're also utilizing the best weapons you can in the early game to progress. In my own experience, I find that your class weapon is oftentimes worth holding onto until you reach a later point in the game since these weapons are catered toward your specific class, but there are occasionally some weapons you may come across that are just too good to pass up. Here's a list of some of the best weapons I found useful to start the game with.
Best Starter Weapons in Lords of the Fallen
I would recommend the following starting weapon types in Lords of the Fallen:
- Spears
- One-handed Swords & Shields
- Long Swords
- Bows & Crossbows
- Staffs
I found during my own time playing the game that weapon type is just about as important as the specific weapon itself. They each can have different reaches, speeds, and damage. There are certainly many factors that go into deciding what type of weapon to use, such as if you're playing solo or co-op, what your class is, and what Encumbrance you have. For example, I found it much easier as a starter player to utilize weapons that have more range and/or deliver faster attacks.
With my weapon types in mind, these are some of the best weapons I came across in the early game:
Hallowed Praise
Hallowed Praise is a great option for starters, dealing not only decent base damage but also some Holy and Bleed build-up on top of that. You can also choose to pair it with a shield to make up for its lack of block protection. Although it doesn't have as much range as a shortsword, it definitely is a speedier weapon option. You can find it in loot spots near the entrance to the Pilgrim's Perch, where you fought the Scourged Sister Delyth.
Crimson Rector Sword
Even though longswords are not the speediest of weapons, they do make up for it in range. These long, usually two-handed swords deal a heck of a lot of damage, especially when utilized by the more heavy weapon-oriented classes. You can find this sword in loot spots all along the area after fighting Pieta.

Bell Staff
Staves may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found that if you put the points into Radiance or Inferno, they can be quite the powerful option, especially if the staff have ranged attacks. The Bell Staff has a well-rounded attack power and physical and, on top of those, a fairly high Holy stat. If you're playing the Priest class, this is definitely a great starting point, but it can even be useful for other classes as well if they have the right stats.
Partisan Crossbow
One of the main reasons I went with the Partisan class is because of their crossbows. Although the Partisan Crossbown can usually only be obtained by being the Partisan class, it still serves as a great example of what kind of stats you can expect from most other bows and crossbows you find in the world. They not only provide cover from afar but can work to knock back or stagger opponents as well.
Old Mournstead Spear
The Old Mournstead Spear is by far one of the best starter weapons I've come across yet. It is a well-balanced weapon, providing decent damage along with a long reach. You can perform a sprinting jump attack on enemies and even hit multiple enemies at once if lined up correctly.
These are just a few of the weapons I found were most useful at the start of the game, but it does come down to what feels the most comfortable for your class and weight capacity. You may come across an even better random item in a loot spot or chest, so keep an eye out.
