What happens when the Umbral meter fills in Lords of the Fallen?

The realm of the unholy...

In Lords of the Fallen, the world of Umbral is a place of horrors. It is a plane of existence that sits on top of the normal world, and with your Umbral Lamp, you can peer into it at will. At many points in the game, you'll run across areas that require you to enter Umbral and brave the night terrors. However, as a denizen of the world of the living, you can't stay in Umbral forever, not unless you want to meet a horrific demise. Here's what happens when the Umbral meter fills in Lords of the Fallen.

What does max Umbral gauge do in Lords of the Fallen?

The Umbral gauge is a small, circular meter that begins to fill once you've set foot into Umbral. It effectively acts like a timer, letting you know when you should probably make your exit from the unholy realm. The longer you stay in Umbral, the more dangerous it becomes. More monsters will spawn the more the gauge is filled, and depending on how far long it is, the more dangerous said monsters are. Elite enemies will start to spawn in large quantities, making Umbral a hellscape for anyone trying to progress through the game.

If the gauge manages to reach maximum capacity, you're in serious trouble. The little eye near the gauge will turn bright red, and a nigh unkillable monster, akin to the Grim Reaper, will begin to hunt you down. This reaper does massive damage to you, and if his blades manage to touch you, he removes your ability to heal, further cementing your fate. This is Lords of the Fallen's way of showing you why you shouldn't seek to remain in Umbral for a large amount of time, despite how lucrative it is for loot and experience.
