Margin of the Strange is an eerie pixel adventure from OneShot developer, about to drop on Kickstarter

A garden-themed mystery adventure? Sign me up.

In the mystery adventure game Margin of the Strange, you get to dive into the world of human dreams. Judging by the art style and soundtrack in the initial teaser trailer, it looks very eerie indeed. The protagonist Ling is experiencing dreaming for the first time and through his shoes, you'll get to explore a surreal world which has its own ecosystem and physical laws. As he makes his way through it, he'll uncover its secrets as well as piece together the puzzles of his own life and death.

Margin of the Strange is developed by Future Cat Games, who you may know from the fantastically popular OneShot puzzle adventure game. OneShot received great reviews when it was launched back in December 2016, and it currently sits at 98% overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. Like that game, Margin of the Strange has puzzle-solving elements and surreal world design.

The game looks like it can provide a deeply fulfilling experience to those who are fascinated with dreams. Its melancholic and ambient tone is definitely noteworthy throughout the whole trailer. But it's also strangely relaxing, making for a unique mix.

(There's also mention of a gardening theme, though exactly how this will play out remains to be seen.)

On X, one of the game's developers NightMargin mentions that if players liked Yume Nikki and its sequel Yume 2kki (developed by Japanese developer Kikiyama), then they might like this game. There are definitely similarities (both titles let you explore your dreams, for one).

The Kickstarter crowdfunding will go live on May 21, when a full trailer will also drop. The developers are aiming for a goal of $62,812 for the project which they plan to meet by June 20. The official website and a Discord server are also available to keep updated on the game.
