Best Ogre Builds in Megabonk – Stats, Cleaver, Demon, & Crit

Builds for the Ogre in Megabonk!

Due to his slow and weak early-game, Ogre is often labeled the weakest character in the game. However, with a few right upgrades, the big green can become a pure damage dealer. If you want to play with him, try these Ogre builds to get the best out of him.

Best Ogre Megabonk Builds

We’ve created three solid Ogre builds that you can test out and see which suits your playstyle the best. If you’ve been thinking about an Ogre crit build but haven’t found the right weapons and tomes combos yet, you’ll find them here. So, let’s get right into it!

Build 1 - The Cleaver

This is the standard build for Ogre, as it uses a few heavy weapons and speeds up his attacks to massively boost his DPS.

WeaponsTomesItems
Axe
Sword
Aura
Bananarang
Quantity Tome
Cooldown Tome
Damage Tome
XP Tome
Gym Sauce
Clover
Battery
Turbo Socks
Backpack
Anvil
Beefy Ring
Other meta items like Time Bracelet, Oats, Medkit, and more.

Why It Works: The weapons create a mix of melee (Sword, Axe), ranged (Bananarang), and constant damage dealing (Aura). Axe, Sword, and Bananarang will keep scaling with the Quantity, Cooldown, and Damage Tome. Ogre’s passive, +1% gain per level, will keep increasing the base damage, and weapon upgrades will take care of the rest.

Clover is a must for Ogre to get rid of that bad luck as soon as possible. Pick up other luck-boosting items along the way. Gym Sauce will also directly boost his base damage, increasing the multiplicative effect of the Damage Tome.

Use charge shrines early on and go for stats like Duration, Movement, Armor, and Luck. The XP Tome will help you level up faster, so weapon and tome upgrades won’t be an issue.

Build 2 - The Demonic Soul

If you’re aiming for a leaderboard run with Ogre, hope for some luck early on, and go for this build. This ramps up his damage to max and transforms him into a killing machine by the time you clear the first stage of any map.

WeaponsTomesItems
Axe
Revolver
Flamewalker
Aura/Aegis
XP Tome
Luck Tome
Quantity Tome
Damage Tome
Demonic Soul
Dragonfire
Idle Juice
Demonic Blood
Brass Knuckles
Battery
Boss Buster
Gym Sauce
Credit Card (Red)
Clover

Why It Works: The core principle of this build is similar to the first one (increase damage by fueling his passive), but with the added advantage of quicker scaling. The XP and Luck Tome will ensure you level up faster and get better rewards for it, preferably the Demonic Soul item (the soul of this build).

Once you have that, you’ll be gaining 0.1% damage per kill. 1,000 kills means you’ll have 100% damage. That’s the cap, but not for Ogre, who’ll continue building on this, thanks to his passive. As said earlier, by the time you clear stage 1, you’ll be doing so much damage that you won’t have to worry about anything else.

To improve defense/survivability, look to charge shrines and items. Boost his Armor or add a Shield if you get the chance. If you go for Aegis, survivability will be covered, as well as the Demonic Soul scaling will be slower.

Build 3 - The Critical Ogre

If you see Forbidden Juice or Precision Tome early on, go for this build. This is not the optimal build for Ogre, but his damage scaling means you just need to focus on improving Crit chances, as Crit damage will take care of itself.

WeaponsTomesItems
Axe
Revolver
Katana
Aura
Precision Tome
Quantity Tome
Cooldown Tome
Damage Tome/XP Tome/Luck Tome
Forbidden Juice
Gym Sauce
Beefy Ring
Demonic Blade
Giant Fork
Demonic Soul
Grandma’s Secret Tonic
Anvil

Why It Works: As the Precision Tome keeps improving your crit chances and Ogre’s passive damage scaling boosts your crit damage, you’ll soon be reaching Overcrit. Revolver and Katana will be your main weapons in this build, with Axe taking a backseat.

The Quantity and Cooldown Tomes do synergize with all four weapons; even your secondary weapons (Axe and Aura) will get their due buffs. For the fourth tome slot, if you have unlocked it, it can be used for any extra stat. Bloody Tome can also be a nice addition to this mix if you’re worried about late-game survivability.

Remember, this is an experimental build and only works if you can hit the right items and weapons synergies. If you can’t get the right items early, switch to one of the other builds.

Ogre Starter Weapon and Passive

Ogre’s signature weapon is the Axe, a melee weapon that hits multiple enemies before returning like a boomerang. Duration and projectile quantity will massively improve the Axe, as multiple projectiles that last longer can clear hordes with a single swing.

StrengthsWeaknessesPassive
Damage scaling: Damage scaling is quick and easy.
Tank: Decent start HP and Armor.
Versatile: The damage scaling passive is perfect for most weapons.
Negative Luck: You’ll start the game with bad luck.
Slow: Movement and jumping are bad. Needs a few movement boosters.
Gain +1% damage per level.

Megabonk Ogre FAQs

How to unlock Ogre in Megabonk?

Ogre can be unlocked after killing 15,000 goblins in the Forest map and obtaining the Axe weapon. To obtain the Axe, you must kill 2,000 enemies using Sir Oofie’s Sword.

How does Ogre’s passive work?

Every time you level up Ogre, he gains +1% base damage that increases the damage of all equipped weapons. This passive stacks multiplicatively with the Damage Tome and other damage-boosting items like Gym Sauce and Demonic Soul.

How to play Ogre during the early game?

Ogre is slow early on due to the Axe’s low damage and few projectiles. Get a better weapon as soon as possible so you can start farming XP to level him up and kickstart his damage scaling. Avoid mobs and add projectiles for the Axe. Get Clover to improve his luck before going for charge shrines. Do not summon challenges or activate cursed/greed shrines early.
