Where to find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18: Diamond levels and biomes

All the diamonds!

After the Minecraft 1.18 release, players have discovered that the world generation mechanics and ore distribution have received a complete overhaul. With diamonds being the most lucrative ore (and one of the rarest), most of us want to know the best locations to look for them.

The most important thing to know about how Diamond Ore generates in Minecraft 1.18 is that it still only shows up below Y 16 in the Overworld, and it can still generate in any biome. However, there has been a massive change to the frequency in which it generates to better represent how Diamonds form in real life.

Diamon Ore can be found most often below Y -59, but the full range of generating is between Y -64 and Y 16. Because of how low it generates, there is no preferred biome for a generation. For example, any point below Y 16 in a Badlands biome is just as likely to generate Diamond Ore as any point below Y 16 in a Mountain biome.

All that being said, it looks like strip mining is still the best option to find Diamond Ore veins; you just need to move about 60 blocks lower!
