Who created Minecraft?

How did it all begin?

Markus "Notch" Persson originally created Minecraft in 2009. The game was a much bigger success than anticipated. Markus Persson worked in companies like King and jalbum while creating Minecraft but left to fully develop the game into its 1.0 version.

Minecraft took most of its code and foundation from Infiniminer, an open-source game. Infiminer was the inspiration and the spark that began Notch's creative flow. Notch wanted to expand upon it with his own ideas and make his game more focused on the Role-Playing aspects.

Mojang started as a one-person business in May 2009 and grew to have 25 employees by the end of 2012. It was the same year Minecraft broke many records like most sold copies, most active users, and more. As of 2021, Mojang has already transformed into Mojang Studios and hired over 600 people working on various versions of Minecraft and other spin-off titles like Minecraft: Dungeons.

In 2014, Mojang was bought for 2.5 billion dollars by Microsoft along with the ownership of Minecraft intellectual property. Markus "Notch" Persson himself left Mojang in 2017 leaving the project that he started behind. His name still remains in the credits of the game.
