The cover athlete for MLB: The Show 22 is Angels two-way player, Shohei Ohtani. The star pitcher and hitter made history last year as the first player to make an All-Star team as both a pitcher and the designated hitter. The 27-year-old joined the Los Angeles Angels in 2017 and has quickly become one of the most popular players in the league. His impressive pitching and hitting have earned him both an American League MVP award last year and the MLB: The Show cover this year.
Not only did Shohei Ohtani play well all-around, but he also set a World Record for the first MLB player to achieve 100+ innings and record 100+ strikeouts as a pitcher, and 100+ RBIs, hits and runs as a batter in a single season.

It would be surprising if Ohtani is not one of the highest-rated players in MLB: The Show 22. In last year's title, Ohtani was only rated an 80 overall, but had a great 99 rating for his breaking ball, but lacked in other areas. This year, as the cover athlete, Ohtani may be given a better rating after his amazing season.
MLB: The Show 22 launches April 5, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and for the first time ever, Nintendo Switch.
