Facing deadly creatures alone is challenging in Monster Hunter World, but there is one way to face all dangers successfully. You'll become the ultimate warrior by using the best weapons for solo play from our list.
10 Best Monster Hunter World weapons for single player
10. Hunting Horn
Hunting Horn is a musical weapon in MH World that's very good if you want to buff your character. Its melodies can heal and boost attack and defense while delivering respectable damage. It may take a while to get used to this instrument of death, but when you master it, you'll have a powerful weapon.
9. Lance
Using Lance is a great way to keep your enemies away from you. It's a mainly defensive weapon with solid attack options. But to use it properly, you must learn how to use it to avoid being killed by faster enemies. I prefer taking risks, so this weapon is not ranked high on my list of best weapons in Monster Hunter World.
8. Light Bowgun
While you can choose a heavy version, I prefer the Light Bowgun. The main reason is the freedom of movement while I shoot, as it allows me to face stronger enemies who simply can't catch me. Upgrading it will make you even deadlier, especially if you focus on debuffs.
7. Sword and Shield
You can't go wrong with Sword and Shield as a weapon of choice in Monster Hunter World. This combination offers balanced attack and defense while maintaining excellent offensive capabilities. The shield part is more than a decoration here as it can mitigate most enemy attacks, saving you from certain death.
6. Switch Axe
Switch Axe is an exciting weapon that allows you to morph it into a sword or axe, depending on your needs. That sounds great, but only if you master its mechanics. It's complicated but can be extremely powerful in the hands of an experienced player facing monsters solo.

5. Greatsword
The oversized Greatsword is a staple weapon of Monster Hunter World. I can't imagine hunting for monsters with anything else, no matter if it's more efficient. But emotions are one, and reality something else, so while this is the coolest way to hunt, it's still not the best. It's simply too slow for my playstyle, but I recommend you try using it, if only to feel the raw power!
4. Longsword
Unlike a Greatsword, Longsword strikes a good balance between damage and mobility while maintaining cool looks. It's a much better option if you want to keep enemies away and still be able to deal powerful combos. This is one of my favorite weapons for solo play in MH World, especially when paired with Drachen Layered Armor.
3. Charge Blade
Charge Blade takes the best of both worlds, making this weapon a superb offensive and defensive choice. It's similar to Switch Axe but offers more defense, allowing you to swap between sword/shield and axe. It still requires skill to use, but it's well worth it!
2. Hammer
Hammer is a typical example of how playstyle dictates your weapon choice in Monster Hunter World. For example, to the shock of many players, my dear colleague, Destiny 2 expert and fellow hunter Christian Dawson, is a fan of Hammer. Why? Because it's fun to play with! That was enough reason for me to try it. And guess what? It's fun to mess with monsters' heads (pun intended) by dealing blunt-force traumas with this weapon!
1. Insect Glaive
Insect Glaive is the best weapon for solo play in Monster Hunter World. It has fascinating mechanics as it allows you to control a Kinsect, an insect that buffs your skills. Jumping attacks are also part of an astonishing offensive repertoire, making every fight a true visual artistic performance.
