Monster Hunter World – Capture vs kill, which is better?

To kill or not to kill?

ARPG Monster Hunter World sees you battling huge creatures across an epic landscape. You have the option to take them down or take them prisoner, so which is better: capture or kill?

Should you capture or kill in Monster Hunter World?

If I had to say one is better, I would say it is better to capture monsters in Monster Hunter World. Sure, you need to be carrying traps and tranqs to capture monsters, and you can only carry a limited amount. However, they are relatively easy to get hold of, so it’s not a big deal when compared to the upsides.

Talking of upsides, many players suggest you get more materials and loot for capturing rather than killing a monster (although the loot tables are reportedly the same). It also makes the battles (and carving) shorter, and as monsters can get stronger when near death, you also avoid this added danger.

The one time I'd recommend killing is if you have an unreliable team in multiplayer. Things can get frantic when playing with others, and if you’re not all on the same page, you can get frustrated and waste resources. In these situations, it is much easier just to kill monsters. There will always be bad players, so it's better for my mental health just to go with the flow! You also have a better chance to attain Gems if you go for the kill.
