Nintendo Switch Sports Chambara Guide – Tips and Tricks

Become a Chambara master!

Chambara is an intense sword-fighting competition in Nintendo Switch Sports. In it, you compete to knock one another off the ring and into the water. We have compiled some tips to help you in Nintendo Switch Sports' Chambara.

Choose the right weapon

Picking the right sword-type is the first step to mastering Chambara. We recommend the Sword, as it is consistent and reliable, but you should try all three out before sticking to one. You should also learn the different weapons when you face off against them.

The Charge Sword gains a powerful attack on blocking successive strikes. The Twin Swords have two weapons you need to watch out for, and the user can move left and right to get around your defense. The Sword has no gimmick but deals the most reliable knockback.

Play defensive

You can't just wildly swing your arms in Chambara. We recommend playing more defensively and waiting for an opening. If you block your opponent's strike, they are stunned, and you counterattack. Use a thrust, Charge Attack, or Spin Attack, depending on your weapon. These give the best knockback and will win you the game faster. Typically, a game comes down to who has the better defense.

Take your time

When swinging, don't just flail your arms, as these could lead to incorrect input. We had several swings change from a vertical strike to a horizontal one, which caused us to get stunned. Instead, be very deliberate with your strikes. When you do strike, make sure you line your attacks up to be parallel so you can get through your opponent's defenses.

Gyro

If you feel that your inputs or swings feel off, reset the gyro on your Joy-Con. Simply point your Joy-Con at the TV and press the X button to recalibrate it. This will ensure that your inputs are correct and that the game doesn't mess you up.
