Easily one of the most annoying monsters in all of Octopath Traveler 2 lies to the west of Crackridge. If players notice a tunnel that an elderly man is blocking, that's the dwelling of the Cave Monster. It has bulky stats like all bosses in the game, but the Cave Monster adds tons of status effect that make the fight much more brutal.
Tips and Tricks for the Cave Monster in Octopath Traveler 2
The first tips for beating this Octopath Traveler 2 boss is to bring as many healing herbs as possible. The Cave Monster will always use Foul Odor on turn one, leaving the player's party inflicted with loads of statuses. The Cave Monster can repeat this throughout the fight as well, so players will need herbs to combat blindness, poison, confusion, and the like.
This alone makes any Apothecary a good character to bring to this fight. So long as they don't die themselves, an Apothecary can concoct some antidotes to the statuses that the Cave Monster inflicts.
As with every boss, players will want to exploit the Cave Monster's weaknesses, which are as follows:
- Sword
- Axe
- Staff
- Fire
This is good news for anyone with a Warrior like Hikari in their party. Warriors can use the Aggressive Slash ability to hit the Cave Monster three times. The Cave Monster starts off with six shield points total, so two Aggressive Slashes will totally deplete the Cave Monster's shields.
Once broken, it's time to use as many Divine Skills and boosted attacks as possible. For a huge nuke to hit the Cave Monster with one time, it's a great idea to use Tera, a beast that Ochette picks up. Tera does tons of damage to the Cave Monster, who is already weak to Fire. Rinse and repeat and the Cave Monster should be defeated in no time.
