Overwatch 2 set for a funk injection, Cowboy Bebop collaboration teased

A crossover worthy of fanfare.

In the newest seasonal trailer for Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment dropped a hint for a collaboration at the end. While there's still a lot untold about the popular anime being featured in the FPS video game, what we do know is exciting.

Set to release February 13, 2024, the Overwatch 2 Season 9 debut seems to be highly anticipated as its trailers sits at #6 for trending gaming videos on YouTube. In addition to the exciting features coming with the next update, the last few moments (starting at 2:26) of the trailer show a tease that hints at a collaboration with the critically acclaimed anime, Cowboy Bebop.

What gives away the hinted collaboration in the Season 9: Champions trailer for Overwatch 2 is the song playing on a jukebox at Big Earl's gas station — Tank! by Seatbelts. This is song is the iconic theme for Cowboy Bebop, even known by those who haven't watched the series. There would be little reason for the song to be featured in the trailer other than a collaboration.

While the crossover hasn't been officially announced by Blizzard Entertainment, it's not a stretch to assume that it will happen by any means. In 2022, Overwatch 2 has collaborated with One Punch Man, another popular anime series. Additionally, Blizzard struck a deal with LE SSERAFIM, a K-Pop girl group managed by Source Music in South Korea. As the popularity of Korean and Japanese media grows in Western nations, we can likely expect further collaborations of a similar nature.
