Will Overwatch 2 be an Xbox exclusive?

What will happen to Overwatch 2?

Overwatch is one of Blizzard's most recent and successful IPs, and the sequel has been in development for some time. It is currently speculated to be released in 2022, but after Microsoft acquired Blizzard, some fans may wonder if Overwatch 2 will be an Xbox exclusive.

The answer is unfortunately unknown at this point. In Microsoft's press release, they state, "Activision Blizzard games are enjoyed on a variety of platforms, and we plan to continue to support those communities moving forward." However, keep in mind that the acquisition won't be finalized until 2023, so it will be a while before we know this information.

A previous question was of Bethesda's upcoming game, Starfield. After being acquired by Microsoft, the RPG game was confirmed to be an Xbox exclusive moving forward, so it is natural that some fear Overwatch 2 will launch only on Xbox.

Though it should be noted that Starfield and Overwatch are two very different games. Additionally, many players have a great deal of time and money into Overwatch on other platforms, and removing their ability to play the game would be detrimental to the community. Only time will tell, though, and we will keep this post updated when more information is available.

The announcement of Microsoft's planned acquisition of Blizzard and Activision came on Jan. 18, 2022, through Microsoft's CEO Phil Spencer released a statement. It details how the company plans to incorporate the games of Blizzard and Activision into their own, as well as an estimated finalization date of 2023.

The timing comes in around numerous accusations, scandals, and lawsuits for Activision and Blizzard. Whether or not this has impacted the acquisition is speculation, but it could mean that Microsoft intends to address the issues and restore the companies' names.
