How to Infect Greenland in Plague Inc.

If you’ve played Plague Inc. before, chances are that you really hate the country Greenland. That’s because it can be notoriously difficult to infect, due to its isolated location and freezing environment. It’s so much of a problem, in fact, that we’ve decided to dedicate an entire guide to tackling the problem of Greenland.

Fortunately for you, there are actually numerous approaches you can take to infecting Greenland, and we’re going to cover all of them. They’ll work across all of the different plague types too, so you should have an easy time infecting it once you’ve read our guide.

Why is Greenland so Difficult to Infect?

Greenland is difficult to infect in Plague Inc. due to a number of different reasons, but the three biggest problems include:

• It's an isolated location
• Freezing environment
• Lack of air travel

To be clear, it’s difficult to infect Greenland if you pick it as a starting country or if you don’t. It’s the most isolated of all of the locations in the game and has an extremely different environment to the others. It also doesn’t have any form of air travel, so you’re going to mostly rely on transmitting diseases through boats.

Which leads us to the second part of the challenge: you’re going to need to try and infect Greenland before the world considers your plague a key threat, or you’re at risk of it shutting down its borders before you can infect everyone. That means that you may have to slightly adjust your strategy depending on your plague style.

Greenland Infection Strategy

So let’s talk strategy. Once you’ve figured out how to infect Greenland, you’ll realize that it’s actually not that hard. The easiest method we’ve found so far is:

• Get Air and Water to 2
• Get Extreme Bioaerosol
• Get Cold Resistance 2

Extreme Bioaerosol and Water will allow the plague to travel to Greenland, while Cold Resistance 2 will help it spread and infect the population. Bacterial Resilience and Drug Resistance can both help the plague spread, though we’ve had success without it. You might need them on higher difficulties though, when your disease gets noticed and infection doesn’t spread quite so easily.

To make life easier, you can also choose to start in a colder country, as this provides a bonus to cold resist from the get go. You’ll still likely need Cold Resistance 2, but you’ll find it easier to penetrate these countries. Conversely, warmer countries might become more difficult to infect.

If Greenland does shut down its port and you don’t feel like starting over, another way you can still infect the country is to get Extreme Zoonosis. This is an expensive tier 3 transmission, as it requires Bird 2, Rodent 2, and Livestock 2 – as well as requiring Cold Resistance 2. You’re also in danger of Greenland exterminating all animals, so be wary of that.
