How to Trade in PoE – Buying, Selling, & Bulk Trades

All the best trades begin with a whisper.

Part of what makes trading in Path of Exile so interesting is that it is effectively its own separate game. As opposed to other games that use a single mode of currency for transactions, Path of Exile relies on what is effectively a barter system. Here's how it works.

Trading in PoE

If you're a free RPG fan new to Path of Exile, you may be wondering where you can trade with players in the game. However, you'll be hard-pressed to find such a place, as there isn't any in-game setup that allows you to establish trading with other players. This is where external sites, like Path of Exile Trade, come in handy as it lets you see other players who have goods they want to unload. This site also lets you participate in bulk trades if the traded item is not part of Equipment.

Should you want to sell an item, you can either create a forum post or buy a premium stash tab. Forum posts aren't often used, so we recommend premium stash tabs in the microtransaction item shop. In the stash tab, you can decide whether to manually price each item or set a universal price for everything.

How to complete a trade or sale in PoE

Once you've found someone you want to trade with, you'll send a private message to the player with the item you want. If they want to trade, they will send you a party invitation. You, as the buyer, will then head to their hideout and wait for the trading request. Don't initiate a trade as a buyer because the trade request can block the seller's inventory space, which prevents them from preparing the items needed for trading.

When the trade starts, you'll put your items in the window and double-check what the trader is offering because there are no returns.

If you're a seller, it's the same process but in reverse. Wait for a whisper from someone who wants to trade, send out a party invite, then head to your Hideout and prep the item before initiating the trade.
