What is Gogoat weak to in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Gogoat is a pure Grass Type Pokémon with many high Base Power moves at its disposal, like Earthquake, Leaf Blade, and Double Edge. The best way to take it down quickly is by hitting it with Physical moves as it has much lower Defense than Special Defense. Its weaknesses are:

  • Flying - x2
  • Bug - x2
  • Ice - x2
  • Poison - x2
  • Fire - x2

Flying, Bug, Ice, Poison, and Fire are all good ways to deal with Gogoat. Its Hidden Ability, Grass Pelt will only activate in Grassy Terrain and gives it 50% more Defense. When activated, it would be best to use Special moves instead.

What is Gogoat immune to in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Gogoat's normal Ability is Sap Sipper, giving it immunity to Grass moves used against it while also increasing its Attack stat. Even moves like Aromatherapy will activate Sap Sipper, so it's advised not to use any Grass moves while it is around.

What is Gogoat strong against in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Gogoat is a great Pokémon when used against other Grass Types because of its immunity to their Grass STAB. However, using these Pokemon types against Gogoat isn't advised, as it will take reduced damage to:

  • Ground - 1/2
  • Electric - 1/2
  • Water - 1/2
  • Grass - 1/2 (without Sap Sipper)

Even with its weak Defense stat, it can use moves like Bulk Up to increase its Attack and Defense and heal off any damage it receives with Milk Drink. While Gogoat may not be one of the strongest Grass Types, it can deal a lot of damage both on the Physical and Special side.

What are the best counters to Gogoat in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Gogoat's movepool through level up isn't too diverse, allowing many Pokémon to be safely switched in to counter it. It knows mostly Grass moves and can learn Aerial Ace, Earthquake, and Double Edge for coverage. When fought in the wild, the best Pokémon to counter it are Staraptor, Kilowattrel, and many of the other Flying Type Pokémon in the game. Bronzong, with Levitate as an Ability is also a very strong counter to Gogoat as it resists all of its moves.
