Best nature for Ho-oh in The Indigo Disk Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

What are the best natures for Ho-oh in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Even among legendaries, no Pokémon is better at taking damage and dealing damage. Ho-oh gets remarkable defenses as well as a great Attack stat (130). This Pokémon is usually built defensively, but it can still pack a punch. For the best results, choose from these natures:

  • Careful (+Sp Def, -Sp Atk)
  • Impish (+ Def, -Sp Atk)
  • Bold (+Def, -Atk)
  • Adamant (+Atk, -Sp Atk)

In terms of defensive Ho-oh, trainers can really pick between Careful and Impish. Ho-oh gets 154 base Special Defense, so statistically, Careful is better for it. Since it's part Flying-type, though, Ho-oh spends a lot of time switching into Fighting moves like Close Combat. This is why Impish is also an option.

Bold is specifically used for Calm Mind Ho-oh, who still gets 110 base Special Attack. It also has a great special movepool, with the ability to pick between Flamethrower, Psychic, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, Solar Beam, and much more.

Adamant is there for offensive Ho-oh. It probably is stronger as a defensive Pokémon, but there is nothing wrong with slapping a Choice Band on it and using Sacred Fire to destroy everything. At 130 base Attack, it's hard to ignore Ho-oh's offensive potential.

How to choose the best nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Selecting the right nature boils down to figuring out which role the given Pokémon is going to fill. Some Pokémon only really fit into one role, whereas others (like Ho-oh) fit into multiple. Sometimes it can be good to ask what the specific Pokémon is guarding against. In the case of Ho-oh, if you're using it to counter things like Chien Pao, it might be good to make it Impish nature instead of Calm.
