Best Nature for Slugma and Macargo in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

They may be slow, but a good nature helps in other ways.

Slugma and Magcargo may not be Bug-types, but I've always loved them since their introduction in Pokémon Gold and Silver. The Teal Mask DLC made the smart choice of bringing them back for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Despite how much I like these Pokémon, they need a good nature to be effective.

What is the Best Nature for Slugma and Macargo in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

I recommend going with one of the following natures for Slugma and Macargo in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

  • Modest (+ Sp. Attack, - Attack)
  • Bold (+ Defense, - Attack)

Normally, I'd always suggest raising a Pokémon's Speed with a Jolly nature, but Slugma and Magcargo are so slow that there is no point, really. Instead, you should focus on their strengths, which are Special Attack and Defense. As a result, Modest and Bold become the best natures for Slugma and Magcargo.

Modest will increase Slugma and Magcargo's Special Attack and make their attacks more powerful. I prefer this route, as their bulk is okay, so I don't think the investment in Defense is worth it. Still, increasing their Defense with Bold may help with their double weakness to Ground attacks.

How to choose the Best Nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Choosing the best nature for a Pokémon depends on several factors, including stats, moves, and the role you want it to play. Looking at this, you'll see Slugma and Magcargo have better Defense and Special Attack. Most of their other stats are lacking or decent, so you should focus on these two.
