Best nature for Vullaby and Mandibuzz in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Foul Play Mandibuzz is, once again, asking for Scizor to Swords Dance.

It may not seem like it, but Mandibuzz is capable of being one of the best defensive Pokémon in all of Scarlet and Violet. Its HP, Defense, and Special Defense are all high, and Mandibuzz has a deep movepool as well. Since this is the case, Mandibuzz can run a bunch of different natures, depending on what the trainer wants to do with it.

Which are the best natures for Vullaby and Mandibuzz in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

The best natures for Vullaby and Mandibuzz in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are as follows:

  • Impish (+ Defense, - Sp. Atk)
  • Careful (+ Sp. Def, - Sp. Atk)
  • Modest (+ Sp. Atk, - Atk)

The easiest way to build an unkillable Mandibuzz is to pick a defensive stat and boost it. Mandibuzz has 110 HP, 105 base Defense, and 95 Special Defense, so it really comes down to what the trainer wants to build.

It's more common for Mandibuzz to run Impish so that it can take hits from things like Kingambit and Dragon Dance Dragapult. Mandibuzz has the stats to run Specially Defensive, though, in which case it would use the Careful nature. I find it best to use Mandibuzz to soak up damage and U-turn into a powerful threat safely.

Modest Mandibuzz is a more niche pick that can help make a funny set work. Since Manidbuzz has the Weak Armor ability, it can get hit to boost its Speed while setting up with Nasty Plot. Afterwards, it will have double Speed, double Special Attack, and it can use Air Slash or Dark Pulse to melt whatever opponent is in front of it.

How to choose natures in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Trainers need to identify which role the Pokémon is playing before deciding on the nature. Sometimes, it depends on which team is being run. For instance, if a trainer has plenty of physically defensive Pokémon like Corviknight and Garganacl, they may be better off running Specially Defensive Mandibuzz to cover that weakness.

It's also important to make sure that any nature hinders a stat that isn't being used. Defensive Mandibuzz likes to run physical attacks like Knock Off and Foul Play, so it doesn't need Special Attack.
