One feature that is brand new with these entries is the Tera state. With this, Pokémon can take on other types, changing their strengths and weaknesses. This may leave you wondering if you can catch Tera Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The answer is yes—you can catch Tera Pokémon. There are more steps involved, but once you spot a Pokémon glowing with gold light, approach that Pokémon and start a battle. Tera Pokémon can be found fairly easily, but you should always take the opportunity to battle and capture one when you find it.

How to catch Tera Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

To catch Tera Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you will have to battle them in a Tera Battle. You cannot catch them right away, so you will need to weaken them. Bring the Tera Pokémon down to red HP, and it will break their Tera state. Once you do this, you will be able to catch it.

Tera Pokémon can have unique types, so it is well worth catching them when you spot them. You will want to use your best Poke Balls and try to get them as weak as possible. Using status conditions is another good way to make it easier to capture Tera Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
