What you need to evolve Rockruff into Dusk Lycanroc in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

While this evolution doesn't require any special items, it does require a special Rockruff. The only kind of Rockruff that can evolve into Dusk form Lycanroc is one with an Ability called Own Tempo. This is a rare ability to have, and it may take you some time to find if you plan to catch it from the wild. If a Rockruff has this ability, it will not be able to evolve into either the Midday or Midnight Form. Instead, Rockruff will only evolve after it has reached level 25 at some point during the evening hours.

All three of Rockruff's evolutions are dependent on the time of day. Time in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is set by an in-game time that is not synced to your Nintendo Switch console. Time is divided into three periods: morning, evening, and night. To tell the time, open your map by pressing Y in the overworld. In the center of the top white bar will be a circle, as shown above. A blue circle with a yellow sun indicates that it is morning. A peach background with an orange sun indicates evening. A purple circle with a white moon indicates night.
