Pokémon Scarlet and Violet use Tera Raids to introduce Pokémon that normally cannot be caught in the Paldea region. This includes Greninja, the Water-type starter from the Kalos region, one of the most popular Pokémon. With its popularity, fans will no doubt want a shiny Greninja, which means getting a shiny Froakie. This may leave you wondering how to get a shiny Froakie in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
How to get a shiny Greninja in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
The only way to get your hands on a shiny Froakie and Greninja in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is by breeding. The Tera Raid Greninja is shiny-locked and cannot be shiny. Thus, you will need to breed Greninja if you want a shiny version. Getting a shiny from breeding can be a long process, so we recommend using the Masuda method.

This involves using a Pokémon from another region, increasing the shiny odds. You can further improve this with sandwiches and the shiny charm. Even with all these boosts to the shiny rate, it will likely still take you some time to breed a shiny Froakie and evolve it into a shiny Greninja.
One thing to note is that when breeding the Greninja captured from the Tera Raid, it will not pass down its Tera type. Any Froakie bred from this Greninja will have the default Water Tera type. You will have to use Tera Shards to get the Tera type you want for your shiny Froakie.
