Best nature for Magikarp and Gyarados in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Unfortunately, rage is not a nature.

There are many factors to consider when building the best Pokémon team. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl feature 493 Pokémon to choose from, and each has different aspects you need to consider. Magikarp and its evolution Gyarados are a solid choice for any team, but you will need the best nature to maximize their strengths.

There are a few options for Magikarp and Gyarados' best nature, but you will need to consider what role you want your Pokémon to play. You can see these options below.

  • Adamant - (+Attack, -Special Attack)
  • Impish - (+Defense, -Special Attack)
  • Jolly - (+Speed, -Special Attack)

We recommend either the Adamant or Jolly nature, though the Jolly nature may be the best. Magikarp and Gyarados have a great attack stat, so the extra boost will let this Pokémon hit even harder. While Gyarados has a decent speed stat, increasing this will let it outspeed other Pokémon and get that first hit, which can make all the difference.

Gyarados has decent defensive stats, so it could fit the role of a physical or special defense tank, but ultimately it is better suited for an attacking role. All three natures sacrifice special attack, which Magikarp and Gyarados do not need.
