Some features are liked by fans while others are not. One feature that nearly all fans adore is having your Pokémon follow you.

You may be wondering if Pokémon walk behind you in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The answer is yes, they will follow you in the new remakes. This is a feature that was introduced in Pokémon Yellow—though it was limited to Pikachu. It also appeared in various other games such as Pokémon Heart Gold, Soul Silver, Let's Go Pikachu, and Let's Go Eevee.

In the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon could walk behind the player but only in Amity Square. In the remakes of these games, Pokémon can follow the player anywhere in the overworld. Presumably, this will work like previous games where the first Pokémon in the player's party will walk behind them.

You will have to first visit Amity Square before your Pokémon can walk behind you in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Different Pokémon will move and act differently as well as respond to the player in different ways.
