Pokémon Go recently overhauled its Mega Evolution mechanic. When the update was released, a new set of Special Research tasks were also released for fans to complete and gain rewards. The full list of steps and rewards can be found below.
All Quests and Rewards
Quest 1/4
- Catch three Pokémon - Bulbasaur encounter
- Catch three Pokémon - Charmander encounter
- Catch three Pokémon - Squirtle encounter
Reward: 500 XP, 200 Stardust, and 10 Poké Balls.

Quest 2/4
- Catch five Pokémon - 10 Poké Balls
- Use Berries to help catch Pokémon five times - 10 Great Balls
- Power up a Pokémon five times - 10 Razz Berries
Reward: 200 Mega Energy (depends on the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline), one Premium Battle Pass, and a Pokémon encounter (depends on the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline).
Quest 3/4
- Earn five hearts with your Buddy Pokémon - 50 Mega Energy (for the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline)
- Power up a Pokémon 10 times - 500 Mega Energy (for the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline)
- Mega Evolve the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline - One Charge TM
Reward: 1,000 XP, 600 Stardust, and 100 Mega Energy (depends on the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline).
Quest 4/4
- Win one Raid - Five Revives
- Defeat a Team Go Rocket Grunt - Two Silver Pinap Berries
- Take a snapshot of your Buddy Pokémon - Six Hyper Potions
Reward: 1,000 XP, 600 Stardust, and 100 Mega Energy (depends on the Pokémon chosen at the start of the questline).
