Pokémon Radical Red – How to Download and Play

It will radically change the way you play the game.

Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee were fine Kanto remakes, but not exactly what more traditional Pokémon fans were expecting from the region. Radical Red is a ROM hack “remake” version of Pokémon FireRed that introduced a more challenging and complete Kanto experience, featuring more Pokémon, better Gym Leaders, in-game randomizers, and more. Here’s how to download and play it.

How to download Pokémon Radical Red

There are no fancy steps needed to download Pokémon Radical Red. Just click on the download link found in this thread. The current version is v3.0.

The creator of the game, Soupercell, informs the community on Twitter if he uploads a newer version. We highly recommend you follow him for new patches and other updates. He often adds Pokémon that get added to recent Pokédexes, for example.

How to play Pokémon Radical Red

Since Pokémon Radical Red is a ROM hack, you need two things to play the game:

The Pokémon Radical Red file you downloaded initially is an update patch for the base game. Use your preferred GBA emulator to patch or update FireRed 1636 (Squirrels) and it should be upgraded to Soupercell’s version.

However, we must warn you that Nintendo is doing its best to close many ROM hack websites. The above link should work, but if it doesn’t, your best bet is to Google search “1636 Pokémon Fire Red” and hope that a ROM archive online has survived long enough to host the link for you.
