To lose weight in Project Zomboid, you will need to eat low calory food items and burn calories through exercising regularly.
You can start exercising by going to the health tab by pressing the heart icon at the top left of your screen. Under the health tab in Project Zomboid, you can start exercising by pressing the exercise button as shown below.
Pressing exercise will give you several exercise choices, and each one increases a certain aspect of your character.
However, starting out in the game, you will only be able to use four and the rest is locked until you get certain exercise equipment.
Each exercise will also either increase strength, fitness, or both simultaneously. But, you will need to be careful when you exercise as they will also strain different parts of your body and cause fatigue.
Because of this, it's best to exercise in a safe location and give yourself time to rest and recover, or you will danger yourself when facing the undead. That said, here's the four you can do at the start of the game and what they increase and cause fatigue too.
Exercise | What it does |

Burpees | Improves strength and fitness when performed regularly but will drain your endurance by a lot. Burpees will also cause fatigue to your character's arms and reduce your agility to fight. |
Push-ups | Push-ups will improve your character's strength but will cause fatigue to your character's arms and reduce your agility to fight. |
Sit-ups | Sit-ups will improve your character's fitness when performed regularly but will cause general fatigue and will cause clumsiness. |
Squats | Squats will improve your character's fitness when performed regularly but will cause fatigue to your legs and reduce your running speed. |
Overall, we highly recommend practicing Burpees out of the four early game exercises to increase your strength and fitness. You will also, in general, need to practice these exercises regularly for them to affect your character.
Because of this, we recommend doing one such as Burpees for 30 minutes at the start of your day. As you progress and get more fit, you can increase the time you do your exercises to the point where you will lose weight.
