When does water shut off in Project Zomboid?

Here's when the water shut off in Project Zomboid happens.

In Project Zomboid, water is set to shut off once the game passes a certain amount of days. The default setting for when the shut-off happens for water is set at 14 days. When the water eventually shuts off, all water sources such as sinks, bathtubs, and showers will have a limited supply of water.

However, water can shut off earlier than the 14th day and randomly shut off within the 14-day range. So what this means is that the water shut off is random, but it will happen sometime before 14 days have passed.

Because of this, it is ideal to set up rain collectors before the shut-off happens. By using Rain Collectors, you will be able to stock up on water every time it rains. It's also a good idea to build quite of few of these collectors, but relying on Rain Collectors alone is not smart in the long run.

In short, it's not going to rain every day, so it's better to diversify your options. That said, here are some things we recommend doing before the shut-off happens for water in Project Zomboid listed below.

  • Collect water bottles and fill them full of clean water.
  • Build a base or find a home near a lake or river and store water after boiling it.
  • Build a ton of rain collectors.
  • Grab water dispensers.
  • Drink soda and then reuse the bottles for water.
