After five years of its release, PUBG: Battlegrounds is going free-to-play on Jan. 12, 2022. This huge announcement was made at the Game Awards 2021. The game will now compete with other free Battle Royale offerings such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, and Apex Legends.
The pre-registrations for the game are live for those who want to experience the game for free. As a token of gratitude, veteran players who've purchased and played the game before the PUBG F2P transition will receive some exclusive rewards.
The rewards and items will be made available on the following dates:
- Steam - Players who bought the game via a redeem code before the free-to-play transition on Jan. 10, 2022 10am PT.
- Xbox/Stadia - Players who set up the in-game nickname after buying the game before the free-to-play transition on Jan. 10, 2022 10am PT.
- PlayStation - Players who bought "PUBG – Special Free To Play Transition Pack" for free on the PlayStation Store from Dec. 12, 2021 11pm PT to Jan. 10, 2022 11am PT.

Although PUBG will be free for everyone on all platforms, players will still be able to support the developers by purchasing in-game cosmetic items, battle pass, and the Battlegrounds Plus subscription.
