Comparison of SG-09 and Punisher in Resident Evil 4 Remake

The right choice is both guns, akimbo!

Resident Evil 4 Remake offers us a cornucopia of great firearms to choose from. Fighting for the president's daughter has never been so easy, with a plethora of weapons to dispatch cultists with. But during their progression, players can also be stuck with choice paralysis, especially if they have two similar weapons and don't know which one to go for. Such is the choice naturally given by the game between your starting pistol SG-09 and the Punisher Handgun.

Should I change my SG-09 for the Punisher in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

When confronted with a choice between switching to Punisher Handgun from SG-09 in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you should make a switch. The Punisher won't have the edge over the SG-09 in pure damage it does to enemies, but it has a unique and valuable trait; its bullets can pierce enemies. This ability to group up a few enemies in a straight line and fire a shot that hits them all is beneficial, especially if you play on higher difficulty levels. This tactic conserves ammo and postpones reloading, allowing you to set the fight's pace.

That being said, both weapons are handy, with great early-game value. You can upgrade both with a laser sight to improve their accuracy and buff up their damage, firing speed, and ammo capacity to make them much more useful individually. Eventually, you will want to switch to the Red9 when you find it later in the game because of its sheer damage output.
