BIG Games introduces ‘Secret Club’ Discord channel for Pet Simulator X super fans

Monthly subscriptions could become the new norm for Roblox experiences.

BIG Games is no stranger to implementing paid exclusivity features into its experiences, most notably with the point-and-click farming experience Pet Simulator X, so fans weren't shocked when the Roblox mogul announced its new Secret Club that requires a monthly fee to join. This "club" is a private channel that exists within the BIG Games Discord server and can only be viewed by those who pay $3.99 each month. Members of this channel are promised exclusive giveaways, announcements, leaks, developer interactions, and more every week.

Seemingly expecting a negative reaction, the tweet that debuted the Secret Club had replies turned off upon release, which has led fans to criticize the company and experience. Within the Roblox community, BIG Games' CEO, Preston, is often referred to as "money hungry," "greedy," and even "deceitful," for the way he runs Pet Simulator X, as many users feel his experience is "pay to win." Gamepasses are needed for certain items and boosts, powerful pets are locked behind a Robux paywall, and some levels are deemed impossible to grind through without paying real money.

In November 2021 Preston fell under major fire in the community for releasing 12 Pet Simulator X NFTs, all of which are currently worth somewhere between $5,000 to $8,000. When these NFTs were announced, many fans took to Twitter to express their disgust toward Preston and his decision to involve Pet Simulator X in the crypto world, saying something to user TheOnlyJotish, who stated the following:

"First off, NFTs are a fat L for the environment. I'm no environmentalist but I at least have enough sense to know that NFTs harm the environment. Second, this is obviously cross-trading, no need to sugar-coat it, buying in-game items for money off-platform. This is a stupid idea. You already made heckloads of money from this game, almost every update is just for money-making, sometimes they are good but this is not one of them At this point, you're just trying to squeeze as much money as you can but you crossed the line here."

At the time of this article's publication, the number of Secret Club members is unknown, but with nearly 500,000 general server members, it can be expected that BIG Games will be making quite the profit from the new addition.
