Lunar New Year is finally upon us, which means the 2024 Lunar New Year update in Adopt Me is here as well! This yearly, fan-favorite update takes place during a two-week celebration period and brings new accessories, items, furniture, and, of course, pets to Adoption Island.
In order to unlock these event-exclusive pets and items, you'll need a pocketful of Yakgwa, a new currency added alongside the Lunar New Year-themed minigame, Red Lantern, Green Lantern. Continue reading the brief guide below to learn more about how to obtain Yakgwa.
How to earn Yakgwa in Adopt Me
Yakgwa can be earned in three ways: by purchasing it with Robux, by finding and releasing kites around Adoption Island, and by playing the Red Lantern, Green Lantern minigame.
How to buy Yakgwa in Adopt Me!
To purchase Yakgwa, head to the Lunar New Year area (accessed by entering the portal pictured below) and then either select the Yakgwa icon at the top of your screen or approach the spinning Yakgwa coin located near the entrance.
Interacting with either option will open the Yakgwa Store. The Yakgwa to Robux equivalents are as follows:
- 300 Lanterns = 7 Robux
- 1,750 Lanterns = 40 Robux
- 4,400 Lanterns = 100 Robux
- 11,500 Lanterns = 250 Robux
- 31,250 Lanterns = 625 Robux
- 70,000 Lanterns = 1,250 Robux
How to play the Red Lantern, Green Lantern minigame in Adopt Me!
Red Lantern, Green Lantern (based on the Red Light, Green Light game that was popularized by the Netflix show Squid Games) is a competitive, player vs player minigame that challenges you to explore an arena guarded by sentient statues and collect as many bowls of Rice Cake Soup as you can without being detected by said statues.
When the statues are facing away from you, you're free to move around and pick up bowls of soup—when the statues turn toward you, you must freeze immediately and hold still until they turn away from you again. If you fail to freeze fast enough and a statue sees you, you will be teleported back to the start of the arena and forced to drop any bowls you were holding.
Once you've collected a max of three bowls of soup, you'll need to take them to the Safe Area to exchange them for points. At the end of the minigame, you will be awarded Yakgwa based on how many bowls you were able to deliver.
How to find and release kites in Adopt Me!
Scattered around Adoption Island are six kite boxes that you can build and release for a small amount of Yakgwa. For each kite you release, you'll earn 150 Yakgwa; these kites can be released once per in-game day cycle. The locations of these kites can be found below.
- Kite #1 - Located next to the wooden bridge that leads to the center of Adoption Island
- Kite #2 - Located next to the red bridge that leads to the center of Adoption Island
- Kite #3 - Located next to the dock
- Kite #4 - Located next to the Pizza Place
- Kite #5 - Located next to the arch bridge that leads to the center of Adoption Island
- Kite #6 - Located next to the Nursery
What is Yakgwa?
Yakgwa is a traditional Korean dessert that symbolizes optimism and perseverance for a fulfilled future, and consists of deep-friend honey cookies that have been soaked in syrup. The literal translation of Yakgwa when broken apart is "medicine (yak) confection (gwa)," which aligns with Korea's view that honey is a favored natural remedy for sickness! Many years ago, this delicious dessert was only enjoyed by the highest class of people in Korea, but now it's a household favorite that many families enjoy baking and tasting.
End
That's all there is to it! If you have a hefty stack of Yakgwa that you're looking to spend, be sure to do so before the end of the event on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024! When the events ends, the Yakgwa, and all of the Lunar New Year pets, will disappear forever!
