You’ll have to complete quests, defeat Hollows, and fight multiple bosses to progress as a Shinigami/Soul Reaper and obtain your Shikai. In this complete VV Ultimatum Shinigami progression guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to do (and how to do it) to make things slightly easier for you. So, let’s dive right in.
How to Progress as a Shinigami in VV Ultimatum
To progress as a Shinigami in VV Ultimatum, you need to complete Main Story Quests and Soul Society Missions. You can complete quests from NPCs in different locations like Soul Society Outskirts, The Marsh, Arctic Plains, and Hueco Mundo.
If you’re having trouble finding quest NPCs, press and hold C on your keyboard to activate Sense and see all nearby NPCs. Read on to learn how to start playing Soul Society Missions.
How to Play Soul Society Missions in VV Ultimatum
To start playing Soul Society Missions, you first need to complete a couple of Main Story Quests in Fort Adam and Soul Society Outskirts. Once you do that, you’ll unlock Soul Society. Press U to open the portal and travel to the Soul Society. Once there, go towards the Hub to purchase a Soul Pager from Kou (Missions NPC standing outside the Hub).
After obtaining the Soul Pager, you can start requesting Missions or join ongoing Missions. You can also use the Soul Pager to request Promotion Tasks. Completing those tasks will increase your Rank, which will make you stronger and allow you to play more difficult missions to speed up progression.
How to Get Mission Tickets in VV Ultimatum
Mission Tickets are required to play Soul Society missions in VV Ultimatum. You can obtain Mission Tickets by:
- Completing Main Story & Daily Quests: Complete quests from any NPC, and he’ll reward you with Mission Tickets.
- Defeat NPCs and other players: NPCs like Hollows, Dragonflies, Bats, and other creatures have a chance to drop Mission Tickets when defeated.
- Find and open Chests: Chests have a random chance of rewarding Mission Tickets. You can find chests by exploring the open world and by completing Missions.
Important: Grind quests and missions until you reach Level 25. Once you reach that, you can start meditating (press L). When you meditate for the first time after reaching Level 25, you’ll see a green aura emit from your body. That's your sign that you’re on your way to obtaining Shikai. How to Obtain Shikai in VV Ultimatum
To obtain your Shikai in VV Ultimatum, you need to reach Level 25 and meditate. After you meditate the first time and see the green aura, you then have to wait for the Spirit Whispers. Whispers are one-liners that pop up above your HP bar. Whenever a Whisper appears, you need to start meditating (press L) to start earning Shikai EXP. If you ignore the Whispers for too long, you’ll end up making your Shikai obtainment tougher.
When a Whisper appears above your HP bar, you need to start meditating immediately to travel to the Inner World. If you don’t teleport to the Inner World and instead go to sleep, that means you need to earn more Shikai EXP. So, go back to grinding quests and missions and wait for another Spirit Whisper.
When you have enough Shikai EXP, and you meditate after a Spirit Whisper appears, you’ll get teleported to a white void. Read on to learn what you have to do next:
Step 1 - Solve the Bells Puzzle
When you land in the white void, you’ll see some white and blue orbs. Follow the blue orbs, and you’ll find white bells. When you interact with a bell, you’ll either have to fight an NPC or answer a riddle. Below are all the riddles and their answers:

If you give wrong answers to any of the riddles, you’ll get teleported back to the main world. The bells you solve successfully will turn blue and will save, even if you can’t complete the full puzzle in one go.
Once you complete all the bells, you’ll get teleported back to the main world. That’s the first step in obtaining Shikai, completed in VV Ultimatum. Read on to see what to do next.
Step 2 - Travel to the Inner World
After completing the bells puzzles, you now need to meditate again to travel to the Inner World. But, when you meditate for the first time after completing the bells puzzles and travel to the Inner World, you’ll see that it is completely covered in fog.
To clear the fog, you have to complete a main story quest that requires you to go back to the main world, reach Level 35, and then meditate again to return to the Inner World. Once you complete this quest and return to the Inner World, the fog will be gone, and you’ll be able to see everything clearly.
Step 3 - Fight Your Shikai NPC
Once you’re in the Inner World, you need to find and talk to your Shikai NPC. This NPC does not have a set spawn location, so you’ll have to find it yourself. When you find it, interact with him. If you have enough Shikai EXP, you can start the fight. If not, you’ll have to go back to the main world and grind more quests to earn more Shikai EXP.
The first time you fight the NPC, it’ll be a relatively easier fight. You simply have to defeat him once to complete the first fight. After that, you need to collect more Shikai EXP and come back and challenge the Shikai NPC again to start the Shikai boss fight.
The boss fight has three phases:
- Base Form: In this phase, the Shikai boss will use all your skills and passives.
- Second Form: The Shikai Boss will revive and will now use unique moves along with all the moves and passives you have.
- Final Form: When the boss’s HP falls below three bars, he’ll regenerate four more HP bars and start using a different weapon.
Defeat and execute the boss, and you’ll get teleported back to the main world. You now also have obtained your Shikai Weapon in VV Ultimatum.
Important: To use your Shikai Weapon, you simply need to press and hold E. This will replace your primary weapon with your Shikai Weapon, and you’ll be able to use your Shikai Abilities during a fight.

How to Unlock Shikai Abilities in VV Ultimatum
After obtaining your Shikai, you need to meditate again to teleport to the Inner World and talk to the Shikai NPC again. If you have enough Shikai EXP, you’ll be teleported to the white void after a dialogue with the Shikai NPC.
When you spawn in the white void, you’ll see the silhouettes of different Shikai weapons. Find and interact with the silhouette of your Shikai weapon to unlock your Shikai abilities.
Now, you have truly obtained Shikai in VV Ultimatum. When you open your Character/Inventory/Quest Log menu, you’ll now see an Ability tab in there as well. You can use Ability Tokens to reroll your Shikai Ability in that menu.
