How to change your character in Sea of Thieves

What manner of pirate are you?

At the beginning of Sea of Thieves, you select a pirate before you can set sail. Once you do, you can customize some of their appearances, primarily the clothing and accessories they wear. If you are unhappy with your pirate's look, you may wonder if you can change your pirate in Sea of Thieves.

Can you change your Pirate after creation in Sea of Thieves?

The answer is yes—you can change your pirate's appearance in Sea of Thieves after character creation. It is not as simple as going to the shop and purchasing a new set of clothing or hairstyle, however. Here is how to create a new pirate in Sea of Thieves.

How to make a new Pirate in Sea of Thieves

There are two ways to change your pirate in Sea of Thieves. One requires real money or Ancient Coins, or you simply delete your pirate and start from scratch. Here is how to change your character in Sea of Thieves.

  • Go to the Pirate Emporium.
  • Navigate to the Pirate tab.
  • Find the Pirate Appearance Potion.
  • Purchase the potion.
  • Close and restart Sea of Thieves.
  • Select your new pirate.

The Pirate Appearance Potion costs 149 Ancient Coins, which is about $2. Once you have purchased the potion, you can continue to close and reopen Sea of Thieves to refresh your pirate selection. We recommend sticking with it until you find one you like; otherwise, you will have to pay money or Ancient Coins again to change your character. Alternatively, you can head to Settings and delete your pirate in the Pirate Profile tab, which will remove all progress.

Should you change your character in Sea of Thieves?

Ultimately this is up to you. If you decide to change your character for a new pirate, we recommend using the Pirate Appearance Potion so that you can keep your progress. If you are just starting and have nothing to lose but want a different pirate, then you can use the delete pirate option. Consider what cosmetics and progress you have made before changing your pirate.
