How to beat the Giga Slime in Secrets of Grindea

The Wobbling Giant has a few tricks up its sleeve.

While the Giga Slime is one of the first bosses you'll face in Secrets of Grindea, it is also one of the toughest, thanks to its unusual mechanics and sturdy defenses. Here's the best way to defeat the Giga Slime in Secrets of Grindea.

Before facing the Giga Slime, I highly recommend investing at least one Skill Point into a ranged magic attack, such as Fireball or Chain Lightning. Fireball has great range and allows you to avoid the Giga Slime's melee attack, while Chain Lightning makes quick work of the adds it summons. You can also use summons like Cloud Strike and Frosty Friend to draw attacks away from you; however, without many points invested, these summons are prone to dying and leaving you without help.

The Giga Slime is the final trial you'll need to complete to pass the Exam and become a full-fledged Collector. It appears as a giant version of the typical green slimes you faced earlier in the Exam, and comes with some extra attacks that can easily catch you off guard. Read on below to learn about these attacks and how you can avoid them.

Summon Slimes

During your battle, the Giga Slime will frequently summon regular slimes to fight alongside it. These slimes aren't any stronger than their counterparts you'll find in the wild, but they will spawn in larger numbers.

While the regular slimes aren't particularly threatening, they will constantly move toward you until they're defeated. In other words, they'll be in the way while you're trying to fire off spells, soaking up damage for the Giga Slime. If you try to attack the Giga Slime at melee range, they will quickly overwhelm you and deal lots of damage with simultaneous attacks.

The best way to deal with these slimes is to try and take them out in groups using melee skills like Piercing Dash, or AoE spells like Meteor. You'll leave the Giga Slime open to attacks until it can summon new slimes. Be sure not to let too many remain on the field at any one point, as they can become a nuisance when grouped up.

Slime Saw

The Giga Slime's most dangerous attack is its saw form, during which it transforms into a giant spinning blade that will chase you around the Arena. This attack deals a lot of damage in rapid succession and will chunk your health if you aren't careful. In its saw form, the Giga Slime cannot take any damage, forcing you to either run or counter the attack.

The only way to stop the saw is to block it with your shield. Each hit to your shield will slow the saw's momentum until the Giga Slime returns to its base form. However, you run the risk of your shield breaking before the saw stops, causing you to take damage anyway. I suggest blocking one or two hits with your shield, then running until the attack is finished. This will put distance between yourself and the Giga Slime and preserve your limited HP.

It is possible to simply outrun the saw until it stops spinning. However, the saw moves very quickly; if you aren't on the opposite end of the arena, it will likely catch up to you before it stops. Moving diagonally can help you maintain enough space, but be ready to bring up your shield if necessary.

Slime Pools

From the moment the Giga Slime spawns, it will leave pools of green slime on any patch of ground it touches. While these slime pools don't deal any damage to you, you'll have reduced movement speed while standing in them. This will put you in a very dangerous position during the saw attack, as you won't be able to move away in time to bring up your shield. Similarly, the slime pools allow any summoned adds to catch up to you, leaving you vulnerable to attack.

Slime Hammer

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

In addition to dealing damage upon contact, the Giga Slime has a melee attack in the form of a giant hammer. This attack is quick and potent, dealing a large amount of damage in one strike. This attack poses a large threat to melee builds, as it can trigger anytime you're within close range.

While strong melee attacks are effective at whittling the Giga Slime's health down, the hammer ability will put an immediate stop to your combos. If you choose to engage the Giga Slime with melee weapons, be ready to either put your shield up at a moment's notice or use a movement skill to get out of the way. There is a brief window where the slime will rear back with the hammer, allowing you to respond before taking damage.
