First, prepare the Build/Buy mode by bringing up the Cheat Command Box using Ctrl + Shift + C. Type testingcheats true, hit enter, then do the same, but with bb.moveobjects on. To move items up and down within Build/Buy mode in The Sims 4, hold Ctrl while you use the 0 key to make the object go lower and the 9 key to make the object go higher.

What to do if the up and down controls are not working in The Sims 4

Sometimes, the controls do not work for players, and the object just sits there without budging. Here's what you should try if the up/down controls are not working for your object:

  • Make sure you have bb.moveobjects on (the building cheat) active so that items can move freely.
  • If you're on Mac, try holding down Command instead of Ctrl while you hit 0 or 9. Some Mac users find this works for them.
  • Some items cannot be moved up and down, so this could be the ultimate issue.
