Sims 4 features a huge list of DLCs, including expansion packs, cosmetic kits, and bundles. However, players can jump into the base game for free, which includes the Oasis Springs, Willow Creek, and Newcrest worlds. The Sims 4 base game still gives access to much-loved features like Build and Community Gallery.
When will The Sims 4 be free?
Sims 4 is going free-to-play starting on October 18, 2022, confirmed by the Sims 4 Origin launcher. Sims 4 base game will be free-to-play on Origin and will most likely be free on other platforms as well.

Sims 4 Deluxe has been available on EA Play, including the Dine Out and Kid's Room packs. Sims 4 is not expected to be taken off EA Play when switching to free-to-play, but that could be subject to change.
Sims 4 going free-to-play may also include free or discounted packs, but so far is only speculation. Sims 4 base game is a fun experience, but many of the DLC packs can really expand gameplay. Sims 4 DLC is broken up into a few categories. Expansion Packs and Game Packs add the most to the game, including new worlds, characters, gameplay features, and cosmetics. Stuff Packs and Kits include mostly cosmetic items like furniture, clothing, and building items and can add many gameplay elements like pets, laundry, paranormal investigating, and much more.
Newer DLC packs like Cottage Living and the Werewolf pack are a little more expensive, but older packs like City Living and Spa Day can add just as much to the gameplay, depending on how you like to play. DLCs are definitely worth exploring to find ones that stand out to you. With Sims 4 free-to-play on October 18, 2022, there will be plenty of possibilities for DLC sales and discounts.
