After years of pretending Shadow The Hedgehog (2005) didn’t exist, imagine the shock last week’s Sonic x Shadow Generations trailer gave. Not only are we getting Black Doom as the remastered game’s main villain, but we’re also seeing the reappearance of the Black Arms and related transformations for Shadow.
Shadow the Hedgehog embraces his Black Arms DNA in Sonic Generations remastered
SEGA showed off a new trailer for Sonic x Shadow Generations during Summer Game Fest. It showed off a ton of things we already knew about the game, such as completely remastered graphics and a separate Shadow campaign. But fans weren’t prepared for the ultimate lifeform to grow alien wings.
These wings are a form of mutation from the Black Arms DNA Gerald Robotnik gathered from Black Doom, the leader of an alien species who once tried to conquer Earth in Shadow The Hedgehog (2005). That used to be the last and only time SEGA touched that part of Shadow’s history until Generations remastered.
“I’ll overcome every obstacle with this power!”
And while Shadow didn’t really embrace his alien DNA back in his game, it looks like he does now.
Black Doom was also implied as his campaign’s villain—a great nod to the fact that characters in Sonic Generations were seen to face huge adversaries and enemies they’ve overcome in the past. It’s actually a wonder why Black Doom wasn’t present in the original game.
Sonic x Shadow Generations will also feature more than a new campaign. Based on the trailer, it looks like we’re getting an Open Zone hub world and the return of the Chao as well.
Sonic x Shadow Generations will be released on October 25. Those who pre-order the game will receive the following:
- Gerald Robotnik’s Journal detailing Shadow’s Creation
- A Sonic The Hedgehog Adventure “Legacy” skin
