While certain parts have remained the same from a pre-1.0 patch release of Sons of the Forest, many new sequences have been added, and certain story elements have been completely rewritten. If you still haven't finished the game, beware - spoilers ahead!

The Golden Cube and the Hell Cave Showdown - Sons of the Forest

The journey to the Hell Cave reveals the Golden Cube, a mysterious artifact linked to otherworldly dimensions. The final battle against the Demon Boss (with Timmy and other allies by your side), leads to a climactic encounter with the Cube. However, the Cube's promise of healing turns to despair as Timmy's condition worsens, and Virginia's mutation remains unchanged.

The escape sequence is dramatically altered in the 1.0 update. Instead of a serene departure, the survivors face a grotesque threat from Jianyu's mutated form. The intense battle and narrow escape highlight the game's blend of action and horror, culminating in a cinematic helicopter ride to safety.

In the updated ending, Timmy confronts his deteriorating condition with desperation. Despite seeking medical help and presenting a golden rock, Solafite, as a potential cure, his pleas are rejected. Timmy's struggle with new mutations and evident distress raises more questions about his future, leaving his story open-ended.

Kevin's ending in Sons of the Forest

Kevin's ending in Sons of the Forest offers a mix of melancholy and humor. Found in a brain injury ward, Kevin's childlike behavior and attire contrast with his adult appearance. In this bitter-sweet moment, he does the ultimate funny thing, accidentally knocking down a piece of the house, and upon noticing what he’s done, he gives you a thumbs-up, which I am sure is a nod to Kevin’s memes by the developers! I must applaud them for this truly wonderful detail.

Virginia's ending in Sons of the Forest

Virginia's tale takes a turn for the dramatic as she's wheeled into surgery, presumably to bid farewell to her extra limbs. But the story takes a hopeful twist as we see her (very much pregnant), enjoying a car ride with the protagonist and a cheerful Kevin in the backseat. It's a moment of peace after the storm, and we can't help but wonder about the future of this newfound family.
