Sons of the Forest – How to fix Virginia glitch

Run, Virginia, run.

Sons of the Forest is a survival horror game where you'll need all the help you can get to succeed. Most of the support comes from companions you may meet during the game. One of them is Virginia, a three-handed girl who is not fond of those mutated cannibals. But she has a bad habit of running away and never coming back. Part of that is her character, but more importantly, a bug! Here's how to fix the Virginia glitch in Sons of the Forest.

Best solutions for Virginia bug in Sons of the Forest

Unlike most companions in video games, Virginia doesn't ignore the fact you shot her, even if it's not on purpose. If you do that, she'll run away, but because of the glitch, she'll run away never to return. These are the most effective solutions for the Virginia bug, at least until developers address this issue:

Save the game and load it

Like all bugs, it often goes away when you reload the game. That's the easiest way out of this bug. With a bit of luck, Virginia will return as if nothing happened. Give her time to return, though, as she might have run very far, so she needs some time to return. While this is a good solution for Virginia glitch, be careful not to overwrite your save position before accidentally injuring her.

Complete the sleep cycle to make Virginia return

To make Virginia return, go to sleep so the day passes. This will act as a soft reboot that will stop Virginia from running away. There is an excellent chance she will forget you damaged her after some sleep. To be sure this works, double down on rest and go for another cycle. You can combine this strategy with saving and loading, just to be sure.

Load the game before Virginia runs away

If nothing works, the best way to ensure Virginia stays is never to give her a reason to go away. Loading the game before the "incident" will prevent the Virginia glitch, but you'll have to repeat specific actions if you haven't saved the game regularly. To avoid losing time on this, save the game often, especially when there's a chance you might deal damage to Virginia unintentionally.

Why can't I find Virginia in Sons of the Forest?

If you can't find Virginia, don't worry; she will find you in the Sons of the Forest, usually at the shelter. She'll act like an animal, getting close, then running away. To tame Virginia in Sons of the Forest, make sure not to have any weapons equipped, as you don't want to scare her away. Be patient, after a few days, you'll earn her trust. After some time, you'll get the option to give her items. You should first give Virginia Puffton a GPS locator to find her on the Sons of the Forest map.
